A game design concept aimed at improving the fashion industry holistically. WOVE is a choice-based resource management game whose function is to increase awareness of the intricacies of the industry without laying blame at the feet of any one actor. The game imbues the player with a sense of ownership of their individual choices, by playing in turn as farmers, factory workers & owners, designers, retailers, and consumers, and acting in the best interest of each.
Screenshot demonstrating example cause-and-effect gameplay. When playing as a factory owner, worker morale, productivity, & profit are all constant considerations.
wove concept models
Initial concept models included installation and experiential designs, all geared towards raising the user’s sense of both responsibility and agency vis-à-vis the fashion industry (the fast fashion industry in particular).
wove process 1
We performed several rounds of user testing, moving from low fidelity paper to higher fidelity digital prototypes. Our initial prototype was very stats-heavy—testing informed our decision to make it increasingly simple and visual, eventually hiding nearly statistics from the user.
wove process 2
The first digital prototype (medium-fidelity visuals with static screens) incorporated feedback from testing: visuals are more welcoming and interaction is direct, rather than through now-hidden systems.
